2014 Goya Windsurfing Equipment, sneak peak!

Yesterday we showed you a first time sneak peak of the new 2014 Goya Windsurfing boards; the Goya custom pro and the Goya One Freewave. Today we have a sneak peak of 2 new sails from Goya that perfectly suit the atributes of those boards. Goya Windsurfing have a world wide reputation for making bombproof, world class wave sails and improving on them each year is a massive ask! But Goya manage to do it year after year and with a brief look at their new sails, things are looking promising for 2014!

With the bar already set so high making better sails will be a tough ask. But with Goya, the quality of their sails is never questioned and their new offerings will be no doubt mind blowing out on the water!

The 2014 Goya Banzai Wave Sail is probably one of the most eagerly anticipated sails of this year! With the previous Banzai models being such a hit with amateur and pro riders alike the 2014 Banzai from Goya Windsurfing will have to be awesome! The Banzai was and is Goya Windsurfing’s first and only 4 batten wave sail, the lightweight and immediate power have been terrific attributes that have been sailed to the edge of wave riding performance by team riders like Marcilio Browne and Levi Siver. The Banzai is all about the low, locked center of effort which delivers incredible light wind performance as well as high wind control. The Banzai is for generating as much lift as possible in a smaller sail size. Because of the tight leech and central draft profile, the Banzai provides extremely quick planing, plus quick and responsive handling in maneuvers. This means you can take a smaller sail onto the water when wave sailing, EPIC! The 2014 Goya Windsurfing Banzai will carry on this purpose and we cannot wait to get it out on the water!

Goya Windsurfing

Goya Windsurfing have released this sneak peak of the new 2014 Goya Banzai!

Jason Diffin had this to say about the 2014 Banzai:

“It is lighter, more flexible and has a better forward feeling in the hands, plus the new Banzai offers better high wind control in all sizes. A new size of 5.5 has been added. The Banzai has explosive low end power and a very direct feel. All wave and wave style sailing conditions are a blast with this sail, from down the line waves to onshore waves and freewave sailing. The Banzai is a top level progressive performance sail delivering ultimate power waveriding and jumping. Very well suited to mulit fin boards.” And BRAWZINHO adds “I have been riding the Banzaia lot flatter at Hookipa, which helps to de-power, but it still holds a shape and drive forward when the strong gusts hit. For on-shore conditions I have been riding it more full with amazing power and early planing. This sail is very easy to move from one side to the other, backside to frontside.“

Another Sail that has been ever popular and proven the world over is the Goya Eclipse Wave Sail. Dubbed the power wave sail in the Goya Windsurfing range, the Eclipse is a full 5 batten power orientated wave sail that is an awesome all rounder and easily the best sail in the range for massive airs! A personal favourite for team rider Levi Siver, the Eclipse offers the perfect blend of low end power and high end control ideal for Levi’s highly technical style and big carving top turns! The Eclipse comes in pro and pro mono Goya Windsurfing constructions and when in the pro construction is literally bombproof! If you were gonna windsurf your way into Armageddon this is the sail you would want in your hands! A real favourite among amateurs and pros for big airs and power on tap the 2014 Goya Windsurfing Eclipse is a truly exciting prospect and will surely be one of the most popular sails of 2014!

Goya Windsurfing

The Eclipse is a tremendous all rounder and Goya Windsurfing have done everything they can to make sure that the 2014 model will be epic!

Jason Diffin has this to say about the 2014 Goya Eclipse:

“Lighter and easier high wind handling in sizes up to 5.0. Sizes 5.3 and larger put an emphasis on quick stable power alongside easy handling. The Eclipse has great low end power, a massive high wind range plus unlimited speed potential. 5 battens make the Eclipse a very stable sail with easy handling when very powered up. All wave and wave style sailing conditions suit the Eclipse just as well as freewave and freestyle sailing. The Eclipse gives stability and range, along with a highy durable construction. Well suited to single fin and multi fin boards.”

Goya Windsurfing a one of the Boylos team’s favourite brands and we cannot wait to see their new gear on the water and on sale! Follow this link to our Goya Windsurfing page and all the new gear and information we have!

Goya Windsurfing set for the 2014 season.

Goya Windsurfing are possibly the highest regarded name when it comes to building wave gear. Their notoriety for building bombproof world class wave sails is almost unparalleled. Over recent years Goya Windsurfing have moved their expertise into creating world class wave boards too. Luckily Boylo’s have managed to grab a sneak peak at some of the 2014 Goya Windsurfing equipment that is coming our way!

Goya Windsurfing

Goya Windsurfing Team Rider Marcilio Browne rips on the flawless 2013 gear!

The thing is though when you are making such high quality gear it can be really tough to make new gear that surpasses the last. However, with the sneak peak we are about to show you, Goya Windsurfing could have managed to do it.

The Goya Windsurfing custom quad has long been a sought after board by all wave sailing enthusiasts. For 2014 Goya Windsurfing made the nose slightly narrower for a more surfboard like entry which allows you to get closer to the critical section of the wave.
Goya Windsurfing made the new board very compact with a faster progressive rocker, resulting in more speed and drive when sailing and wave riding. Goya Windsurfing suggest you pick one size bigger than your normal choice as the new board feels very small, and a higher volume will allow you to use a smaller sail, making wave riding that much more enjoyable. Founder Fransisco Goya had this to say:

“A whole new level of excitement! Really these are the words that come mind as I’m riding the new CUSTOM for the first time. I feel so much more connected to the whole board, it’s fast and intuitive to the point that I wonder if I even need footstraps. I have never experience the similarities to surfing as I have with these new shapes.”

Goya Windsurfing

The Custom Quad from Goya Windsurfing looks Amazing! And with Fransisco Goya SO stoked on the board we cannot wait for it to arrive!

Another board from Goya Windsurfing that has really turned heads in 2013 is the Goya Windsurfing the One freewave board. The 2014 model is slightly shorter and has a higher entry rocker this gives the board a massive range, both for conditions and for riding styles, especially when switching between fin set ups. The fin setup versatility of these boards allows you to adapt one board to suit multiple conditions meaning you can make the most of the conditions you have in front of you. Fransisco had this to say:

“Freewave in Thruster style. Imagine turning and sliding with all new angles and speed. This is the magic of the new ONE. These new shapes turn average onshore conditions into turning paradises. They spark creativity and ignite maneuvers that may not even exist yet because the new ONE can travel paths on real world waves that simply haven’t been traveled before.”

Goya Windsurfing

The One from Goya Windsurfing is an awesome all rounder and with the new changes for 2014 it could be epic!

A quick glimpse into the 2014 Goya Windsurfing line up from Boylo’s. We’re biting at the bit to see these models out on the water! More sneak peaks to come so keep reading! Expect to see the 2014 Goya Windsurfing Equipment on sale around september/october time. Join the K4 Fins Revolution!

The windsurfing world is forever being hit by newer, more advanced, higher performance equipment. Carbon fiber features in a lot of performance conversations; boards, masts, booms, even fins. But recently, for wave and freestyle riders, performance conversations regularly involve plastic fins! Not just any random plastic fins though, K4 Fins. K4 Fins are tearing the wave and freestyle market apart! All the ‘high performance’ fins and constructions are being sailed out of the water by K4 Fins. But where has this sudden revolution in performance fins come from?

K4 Fins is the brain child of Hotsailsmaui rider Steve Thorpe who’s UK sail number is…wait for it…K4! Steve is based in Leicestershire and constantly travels hundreds of miles searching for the best waves and wind to compliment his water born obsession with windsurfing and surfing. Steve studied physics, maths and further maths at A-level and remembers once scoring one of the highest marks in the country for a fluid dynamics test! He applied this knowledge to create the K4 Fins when working in his father’s injection moulding company.

K4 Fins

K4 Fins founder and creator Steve Thorpe putting in a bit of ‘product testing’!

The benefits of the fins really have to be felt to be believed, as a wave riding biased fin they are almost entirely unbeatable! In your bottom turn the flex of the fins allows you to drive them hard and fast. As you’re going through the bottom turn and your speed starts to drop off the fins give you something back; all that ‘stored’ energy from the flex is given back to you when you need it most. In doing so, you don’t get stuck through your turn. You can power all the way through to the lip and smack it at full velocity.

Team rider Graham Ezzy has this to say about the flex of the fins:

“The flex allows me to go more vertical and hit later lips. Instead of getting stuck in the curl, I can push on top of it and get more projection. Super cool.”

But it’s not just the pro’s that are benefiting from the performance characteristics of the K4 fins. For us everyday riders, the ‘stored’ energy the K4 Fins deliver through wave riding is even more important. For a perfect turn like the one’s Mr Ezzy is probably dishing out, the fins are great. But for those of us whose bottom turn might not be perfect the added push the K4 Fins give you really makes a difference. By simply riding on the K4 Fins regularly your wave riding will improve dramatically!

K4 Fins

K4 Fins team rider Andy ‘Bubble’ Chambers has his own signature ‘Bubble’ Freestyle Fin!

K4 Fins have a large variety of fins in their range now and at Boylos we stock all of them! We even have the mind blowing K4 Fins ‘Bubble’ Freestyle fin developed by JP/Neilpryde team rider Andy ‘Bubble’ Chambers! Follow this link to the K4 Fins on our website and join the revolution today!

Starboard Element 9’8 SUP Review

Starboard are yet again asserting their dominance as a manufacturer of Stand Up Paddle boards. Their race and wave boards are winning competitions and championships across the globe and their research and development team are constantly tweaking, improving and changing their production models to offer the very best SUP’s that money can buy.

Starboard Element 9’8 Review

The Starboard Element 9’8 is one of those models that manufacturers sometimes come up with where improving the shape is near impossible. The wave orientated all rounder has proven it’s performance capabilities the world over with pro’s and amateurs and is a common favourite among those who ride it. But how come the Starboard Element 9’8 is so good?

The surf inspired shape of the Starboard Element 9’8 has taken a lot of time to perfect and get right and the word that best describes this plan shape is balanced. A 30″ wide point on the board gives the rider a good amount of stability and therefore confidence when either paddling on flat water or when taking the board out through the waves. The decent amount of length on the Starboard Element 9’8 gives it plenty of glide too, which helps to give the board and rider smooth glide and more efficient paddling again, either on flat water or when trying to catch a wave. Long and wide, the Starboard Element 9’8 is great for building your confidence and simply enjoying your time on the water.

Starboard SUP

The decent length and width make the Starboard Element 9’8 a great flat water SUP

You might think that a long, wide board could be a little boring, but you would be very wrong. Starboard have worked extremely hard to perfect the balanced nature of the Starboard Element 9’8 and make it stable and forgiving as well as being an agile and exciting wave rider. The refined rear rails and pulled in pin tail give this board a fantastic turning circle and allow you to draw long clean carves all over the wave face. The 2+1 fin setup continues the balanced theme of the board by giving lots of drive for big turns and for holding a line on bigger waves and yet also offers some release for those good enough to push the fins out on their top turns.

Starboard SUP

The tight and refined pin tail and rear rails on the Starboard Element 9’8 make it an exciting wave rider!

Available in Brushed Carbon, Wood, AST Silver and AST Candy constructions, the Starboard Element 9’8 can be all the board you want it to be. Whether you want it to be as light and performance orientated as possible (brushed Carbon) or if you want the option to windsurf on it (AST Silver) there is a construction to suit your requirements.

RTM Mambo Kayak Review!

Thank heavens the weather is changing! Spring has made a dramatic turn and is now showing signs of summer weather! The blue sunny skies and flatter waters may make some watersports fans upset, but for paddle sports, kayaking in particular, the conditions don’t really get much better! Heading into summer the water is still pretty cold but when your kayaking out on flat water, the chances of going in are hopefully quite small allowing you to get out onto the water earlier in the season than many other watersports and stay out there for longer!

The range of designs for kayaks is massive and enthusiasts have a wealth of options available to them. The biggest trend at the moment though, is the switch from conventional kayaks to the newer sit on top kayaks. The differences in design are quite clear to see, rather than sitting inside the kayak with a squirt across the top to stop water getting in, you simply sit on a hull with an ergonomically designed top that makes sitting more comfortable and practical. What this does is eliminates the risk of capsizing and

having your kayak fill up with water, the sit on top kayaks are also generally wider and more stable making for an incredibly safe and relaxing kayaking experience. This is one of the biggest appeals about sit on top kayaks, the easy nature and relaxing vibe.

RTM Mambo Kayak

One of the best names in sit on top kayaks is RTM and one of their most popular models is the RTM Mambo Kayak ! The RTM Mambo Kayak emphasises everything that makes sit on top kayaks such a huge success. It has a wide stable design but with plenty of performance aspects to balance perfectly between chilled and exciting. The gentle nose rocker gives just enough curve for use in waves and the RTM Mambo Kayak can be a capable wave rider for some fun in the surf. The flatter middle and tail give the RTM Mambo Kayak terrific glide and make it an efficient flat water paddler.

RTM Mambo is a great all round Kayak

RTM Mambo is a great all round Kayak

The all round shape of the RTM Mambo Kayak is perfect for those who would like to make the most of a variety of water conditions. This versatility is further enhanced by the wide range of accessories that you can purchase to attach to the RTM Mambo Kayak . Products like the adjustable knee straps and comfort seat and backrest give a secure, locked in feel and boost the performance of the RTM Mambo Kayak towards that of a conventional Kayak.

Knee straps and other accessories make the mambo a great all round performer!

Whether you’re after a Kayak for flat water or surf the RTM Mambo Kayak has the ability and versatility to get you on to the water in all water states and the sit on top design means you can paddle with utter confidence over your personal safety. Starboard Drive 10’5 Review.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding or SUPing, is really taking hold of the UK’s watersports scene. The massively inclusive, easily accessible and highly versatile sport has captured the attention of thousands of watersports lovers and newbies alike and is getting more people on the water everyday! Demand for better Paddle Boards has gone up and the level of equipment is so much higher now than it ever was. Starboard are one of the biggest names in the business with their high performance models winning tonnes of both racing and wave events year round and their entry level boards proving to be tremendously popular with the masses. Throughout the vast range of Starboard SUP’s there is definitely a board to suit anyone’s needs and abilities, but it is the Starboard Drive that is taking the lead on popularity and we are about to explore the reasons why.

Starboard Drive 10’5 review

The Starboard Drive is proving yet again to be one of Starboard’s most popular shapes and is the best selling shape in the UK! All this popularity happens for a reason and when you start to look into the design and performance of the Starboard Drive it’s very easy to see why so many people love the shape! The Starboard Drive is designed to be a superb all rounder with the ability to be an efficient flat water paddler and also a lively and agile wave rider. The blend between flat water and waves is seamless with the Starboard Drive and it is this versatility combined with the ease of use that makes it so popular amongst us SUPers here in the UK.

Starboard Drive

The Starboard Drive’s great all round performance is at the core of it’s popularity.

The intermediate rocker and wide standing area provide the glide you need for flat water paddling and make the Starboard Drive great for touring around on flat days. The rounded pin tail and rounded outline make for a great surf shape though so you can quickly switch from flat water to waves on the same board. A mono concave in the nose gives the Starboard Drive plenty of speed which then blends from the flat middle into the V bottom in the tail, making it a great carving board and really giving it a lively, agile ride. Especially for a board with so much flat water stability!

Starboard Drive

Wave riding is where the Starboard Drive truly excels!

The Starboard Drive comes with a 2+1 fin set up: Starboard’s Hexcel 210 center fin and M4.5″ side fins to provide it with plenty of drive for speed and grip for smooth, drawn out carves.

Starboard Drive Fins

The SUP specific fins on the Starboard Drive give it plenty of direction for flat water and tonnes of performance for wave riding!

As with many of Starboard’s models the Starboard Drive is available in a variety of constructions. The Brushed Carbon Construction is Starboards performance construction with minimal weight and maximum strength, this would be the perfect construction for those looking to really exploit the Starboard Drive’s prowess in the waves. The Wood construction from Starboard is gorgeous to look at and really gives you a sense of occassion when riding the Starboard Drive. An EVA foam deck pad covers the standing area for grip and board protection. The AST candy and white share the same shape with the AST silver. However, the Candy has a full EVA deck pad and the White has Starboard’s startouch deck grip. The AST white is the basic level construction and offers the best value amongst the constructions.

The AST Silver construction is a great design concept from Starboard. What it does is add a mast track for attaching your windsurf sail! Windsurfing on your Starboard Drive is a fantastic way to further extend the versatility of your board and open up a huge range of water conditions and opportunities using just one board! We absolutely adore this construction from Starboard and when mixed with the versatile, popular shape of the Starboard Drive it makes for a true all round winning SUP!

Starboard AST Silver

Ultimate Versatility! The Starboard Drive AST Silver is awesome, flat, wavy or windy and any mixture of the three!

So if you’re looking for the perfect SUP for getting out on the water as much as possible, flat water, waves or wind; then the Starboard Drive is exactly what you’re after! A true Boylo’s favourite, the Starboard Drive is one of the must have items for your ‘waterman’ Lifestyle! Check out the Starboard Drive by following this link: Starboard Drive

O’Neill Heat 3mm Split Toe Wetsuit Boot Review

Chilly waters but warmer weather, mean that whilst the blue skies and waves may look appealing, you still need to be kitting yourself out in order to make the most of the water in our late spring to early summer. Luckily there are a lot of good products on the market designed to let you enjoy the surf, without worrying about getting cold. Today we’ll be reviewing one of the Boylo’s favourites, the O’Neill Heat 3mm Split Toe Wetsuit Boot.

O’Neill Heat 3mm Split Toe Wetsuit Boot Review

The O’Neill Heat 3mm Split Toe Wetsuit Boot is a superb product for year round surfing, but it particularly suits our UK climate and water temperatures. The 3mm thickness may not be as thick as some of the other boots on the market, but thanks to the high quality build and great features you’ll struggle to see much of a difference in warmth. Whats more, with the reduced thickness comes a greater sensation from feet to board. So whether your surfing, windsurfing, paddle boarding, kite surfing or any other watersport, your feet will feel more connected when standing on your gear, giving you a better base for balance and control.

O'Neill Heat 3mm Split Toe Wetsuit Boot

The O’Neill Heat 3mm Split Toe Wetsuit Boot is perfect for UK watersports.

The O’Neill Heat 3mm Split Toe Wetsuit Boots boast some great features to enhance their performance. Their split toe is a truly great design and gives you a much more locked in and snugg fit from the boots and feels great when performing boardsports, as you get full use of your big toe and other toes seperately meaning superior feel and balance. The split toe also prevents your foot from rolling around in the boot when moving, this is further enhanced by the horizontal torsion control system on the top of the foot of the boot, which prevents the boot from over twisting or rolling about on your foot. All this means that you notice wearing the boots less and less and can therefore focus better on the sport you’re doing.

O'Neill Heat 3mm Split Toe Wetsuit Boot

The Split toe and torsion control system provide a really secure fit and let you focus on your sport.

O’Neill are all about surfing in colder waters and there experience shows when it comes to making their products warm. The O’Neill Heat 3mm Split Toe Wetsuit Boots are made from O’Neill’s fluid foam material, which is vitally warm and yet incredibly supple giving you more feeling without losing warmth. All the seams in the O’Neill Heat 3mm Split Toe Wetsuit Boots are Glued and Blind stitched, which prevents any water from getting through the seams. By not passing the thread all the way through the material when sowing and therefore not making a hole, there is no where for the water to get through. The glue is then placed over the seam for good measure and what you end up with is a waterproof seal. This combined with the top shin strap that prevents flushing water into the boot, means that very little water actually gets to your feet, keeping you warmer and importantly, in the water for longer!

O'Neill Heat 3mm Split Toe Wetsuit Boot

Clever design like the shin strap to stop flushing and little details like the loop on the heel of the shoe for getting them on, show just how well thought out the O’Neill design is.

The attention to detail shown in the design and manufacturing of the O’Neill Heat 3mm Split Toe Wetsuit Boot is testament to O’Neill’s vast experience of making cold water surf products. The Durable rubber sole on the O’Neill Heat 3mm Split Toe Wetsuit Boot is evidence of this, you’ll take for granted the ease with which you can walk over pebbles, reefs and rocks on your way to the surf, thanks to the thoughout design of the O’Neill team.

O'Neill Heat 3mm Split Toe Wetsuit Boot

Textured, durable sole provides comfort and grip when you need it most.

All in all, a superb wetsuit boot and one that the entire Boylo’s team highly recommend for your watersports needs (Many of the team where these boots themselves!). At just £29.99 the O’Neill Heat 3mm Split Toe Wetsuit Boots are incredibly good value for such a high performance boot!
