Just landed here in our store are the 2012 O’neill Psycho Gloves and they’re looking great. The Wetsuit glove market is a wide and dark place but hopefully we can shed some light on the situation with a little review of the O’neill Psycho Gloves 1.5mm.
First impressions of the O’neill Psycho Gloves are really good. I like the look, the patterned rubber grip placed over the entire glove not only gives a very good stick grip to whatever it is you need to hold (the rails of your board for instance) but also provides a very unique look and feel.
The glove features the same Liquid Seam that the top of the range O’neill suits offer, meaning that water can’t seep through the seams keeping your hands a lot warmer. The O’neill Psycho Gloves layout has been designed with flexibility and comfort in mind with strategic seam placement. This means your flexibility, when curling and extending your fingers, is unrestricted making the experience a lot better.
There is also an additional seam that runs up and over the back of the two middle fingers of the glove. this is a very subtle feature that we really like as it feels as though the seam stops your middle two fingers over extending. This is something you will notice towards the end of the session when your hands are tired from paddling and keeping your fingers rigid becomes more difficult. The seam layout also has a preformed design that keeps the hand slightly curled and the fingers quite close together making it perfect for effortless paddling.
The wrist of this glove features an anti flushing band stitched to the inside creating a barrier to stop the gloves suddenly being filled with water from your arms or the sea. This is very useful during a ‘wipeout’ as it means when you resurface your gloves are ready to go and you can grab your board and paddle again (nice if there’s a big set coming).
Our overall impression of the O’neill Psycho Gloves is very good, we like how comfortable they are and how O’neill have obviously taken the time to realise the subtle functional details to put into these gloves making them such a pleasure to wear when in the water.
Good value at £24.95 these gloves will last and keep you shredding the waves right through the winter!
