Down here in Lyme Regis the legendary Red Bull energy drink company brought to the town one of the most epic wakeboarding events we have ever seen. Named ‘Harbour Reach’ the competition involves cable towing the world’s finest wakeboarders through the harbour over upturned kayaks, and before jumping the historic harbour wall.
This Summer 2012 they stepped up their game introducing a massive half pipe and a floating 4×4 DJ booth. The Cobb and beach were both packed with young and old spectators enjoying a fantastic evening of sunshine and surrounded by an immense atmosphere. The show kicked off with big jumps and big crashes. The competitors were pushing themselves to the limit but arguably the show was stolen by the Red Bull Matadors that came and displayed during the half time break.
If you haven’t yet seen the Red Bull Matadors then all of us here at Boylo’s suggest you do. Two propeller powered planes flying feet apart and performing the most epic mind blowing stunts you’ll ever see. Take nothing away from the wakeboarders but the planes really were something else.
After the Matadors had left everyone speechless the competition continued. The second half kicked up a gear. The guys were putting 110% in and blowing the score sheets apart. The end of the competition came just as the sun set under the hill and once again Red Bull put on another fantastic event here in Lyme Regis. Harbour Reach was a huge success. It’s the one weekend that this old historic fishing town sees ‘dudes’ dressed in the coolest mens surf wear having a great time in a great place.
