About Oxbow
Oxbow Surf Co was founded in the French region Pont-Audemer back in 1985. The objective of Oxbow was to embrace all boardsports and nature. Oxbow has never been about elite competition. They've always been about the ride, the enjoyment and the purity of water sports. This is what sets Oxbow aside from the rest of the brands. When wearing Oxbow surf clothes, you are making a statement of individuality, expressing both your contact with nature and your appreciation of its forces.
Soon after Oxbow Surf Co started they joined up with surfing legend Laird Hamilton. Laird and Oxbow's relationship was tight and between them they shared many epic rides and adventures. Laird's unique view of the water and surfing inspired Oxbow's direction over the years and helped communicate Oxbow's message around the world.
Since its formulation Oxbow has worked closely with many epic sports heroes, to name but a few: Levi Siver, Jason Polakow, Kai Lenny and Duane Desoto. The Oxbow Surf team shares one common goal... the ride. They are committed watermen interested not so much in competitions but challenging nature and coming out on top.
Over the years all of Oxbow riders have ridden in many varied conditions. However, there was one momentous occasion which saw Oxbow rider Laird Hamilton defy surfing theory when he surfed Teahopoo. In autumn 2000 Laird dropped into one of the most menacing big waves ever ridden. The Oxbow rider was so deep in the pit that any error could have been fatal. Oxbow had backed Laird for the trip and it paid off. What the Oxbow Waterman did that day will forever be engraved in history as one of the best rides.
Oxbow is now in a new era. Oxbow riders have been a key part and with the growth of Kai Lenny, Oxbow hope to look to a new generation of waterman for inspiration.
