We try to stock gifts that are unique and fun so you can get that extra special something for that extra special someone. For this blog, I’ve picked out two fantastic reads from our small selection of surf and sea themed books. These books combine food and lifestyle to inspire you to get your creative juices flowing.

As we head towards the festive season (I’m deliberately avoiding using the ‘C’ word too soon) here at Boylos, we try to stock gifts that are unique and fun so you can get that extra special something for that extra special someone. For this blog, I’ve picked out two fantastic reads from our small selection of surf and sea themed books. These books combine food and lifestyle to inspire you to get your creative juices flowing.

Orca Publications (2014): RRP 17.99

The beauty of Surf Cafe Living is in its scrapbook like nature. The way the authors have combined all the things they love into one glorious book makes it truly one of a kind. This book is all about cooking, entertaining and living by the sea. Written by Jane and Miles Lamberth, this dynamic duo are based on the west coast of Ireland where they have embarked on their own business adventure, in the form of a small beachy cafe. They’ve traveled everywhere, from Cornwall to Colorado, Nepal to South Africa and feel passionately about combining food and being active outdoors to create a healthy lifestyle.

The book opens with the renovation of their house. This seems like a slightly unusual beginning, but it's very clever in framing the rest of the read. Starting in this way shows the reader where the authors are coming from and their heart for sustainability, community and the sea which is the golden thread of these books. The rest of the book's chapters are set in the seasons, which I personally love. With sumptuous seasonal recipes, to extracts about surf and beach life in western Ireland, this book has it all.

My personal favourite recipe from this book is the 'Watermelon, Mint and Feta Salad with a Twist.' This fantastic summery salad makes an excellent starter or BBQ extra.

The final reason why this book makes such a great read and potential gift, is how aesthetically on point it is. With fantastic illustrations, photos and colour, it’s quirky and beautiful!

Inspired by ‘travel, surfing and a healthy outdoors lifestyle’ the Good Vibes Cookbook is the most recent creation of Jane and Miles Lamberth. This book focuses more on the recipe side of their work, including everything from recipes for healthy snacks to comfort food. The book’s taste bud tingling notes reflect Jane and Miles’ globe trotting whilst providing useful tips and tricks for the kitchen. It not only includes gluten free and vegetarian recipes but each chapter is set around a mealtime so, for example, if you’re exploring something a bit different to eat in the morning, you can head straight to the breakfast section.

It also has a small outdoor element to it, with great tips and tricks on getting out into the countryside and being involved with your local community. Again, it is also a great looking book with beautiful photography and illustrations throughout!

From these books you will be inspired into a healthier and more active lifestyle from the food you cook to what you do with your free time!
